| For this lesson kindergarten students were inspired by Vincent van Gogh's artwork Starry Night. They created their own Starry Night of Albion drawings. We discussed community and the types of things that that are really important in Albion's community. Do you see anything familiar? |

1st grade students viewed and interpreted the work of Keith Haring. We learned that he was inspired by popular culture and street dancers. We created our own figures in motion. This week all elementary students participated in an Albion Elementary tradition, creating paper snowflakes. The first week after holiday break each student cuts two paper snowflakes, one to decorate the art room, and one to take home. My favorite part is watching the amazement on some of the students faces as they unfold their snowflake.
1st grade students made either mitten ornaments or dishes out of clay. They started with a slab of clay, cut out the shape of a mitten using a template, carved out designs, let it dry, put it in the kiln to harden, painted with water colors, and then put the pipe cleaner in so it can hang. I then sprayed each of the mittens with a clear gloss. Students can't wait to take these home!
