| 1st grade students looked at the work of Georgia O'Keefe and created their own larger than life flower. We made our flowers look big by having the petals go off all the edges of the paper. First we looked at a flower and drew it. Then we painted them while showing value in the petals. Next we traced all of our edges in glue, waited for it to dry, and rolled over our piece with ink. Pictures will be posted as students finish. |

2nd grade students created still life pastel drawings. The showed value in their vases and were inspired by the flower in vase paintings of Vincent van Gogh. The students loved working with the messy pastels. These turned out great and the kids can't wait to take them home.
This is part 2 of a homeschool lesson on tint, shade, and value. The ages range from 5-12. After creating the Tint and Shade Winter Sky painting we used our new color mixing abilities to create snowmen with value. These turned out great!
Today I taught 8 homeschool students ranging from ages 5-12. We started by learning about tints and shades. We created a sky using blue paint and mixing it with white to make tints, and then black to make shades. We then added silhouettes of tree branches to make it more interesting. Look below to see the art they made!
2nd grade students studied Cubism and the artist Pablo Picasso. Cubism is an art movement where forms are flattened into geometric shapes. Many angles of an object can be seen. Think about all the views of a face. What would that look like? Find out when students bring home their Cubist Portraits. Look at all the great artwork! 1st grade students viewed and interpreted the work of Keith Haring. We learned that he was inspired by popular culture and street dancers. We created our own figures in motion.
